Yantra

Aircraft boarding system redesign focused on reducing aisle congestion and improving luggage handling.

Overview

Yantra is a concept design for improving aircraft boarding efficiency by rethinking how luggage is stored and managed inside the cabin.

Traditional boarding processes are slowed down by passengers stopping in aisles to place luggage, creating congestion and delays. This project explores how integrated systems inside the aircraft can streamline this process.

Problem

  • Aisles get blocked during luggage placement
  • Passengers wait while others store bags
  • Overhead storage is inefficiently used
  • Boarding time increases significantly

Solution

Yantra introduces an integrated luggage handling system within the aircraft cabin.

A conveyor-based mechanism assists passengers in placing luggage efficiently, reducing the need to stop and search for storage space.

The system distributes luggage along the cabin, minimizing congestion and improving boarding flow.

How It Works

System components include proximity sensors for detection, RFID-based identification, and guided lighting indicators to assist luggage placement and retrieval.

Passenger Moves Forward

Instead of passengers stopping in the aisle to search for storage space, luggage is handled through an integrated conveyor system. Sensors detect placement and guide the distribution of bags along the cabin, allowing passengers to continue moving without interruption.

The system combines mechanical transport with sensor-based feedback to guide luggage placement efficiently inside the cabin.

Key Features

  • Integrated aisle conveyor system
  • Sensor-based luggage detection
  • RFID-based identification
  • Guided storage allocation
  • Optimized cabin layout

Outcome

The concept demonstrates how combining industrial design and system thinking can improve passenger flow and reduce boarding time.

By addressing bottlenecks in luggage handling, Yantra proposes a more efficient and structured boarding experience for both passengers and airlines.
